Memorial Day

So, today's blog post is a little different. Today I wish to honor the man of my dreams, my husband Eric. I am forever blessed to have my man in my arms every night. Not every military spouse has the pleasure of saying that, and I am forever grateful for the work the troops continue to do. Thank you Eric, for your bravery and faith. You are my hero!
Here is Eric when he was little! *Insert "aww how cute here* I'm sure Eric will just love me for this later.

Here is a picture during a sandstorm in Iraq. Eric was support of the 1st marine corp division deployed to Iraq when the US declared war.

Thank you friends, family, and everyone else for serving in the military. It is a special commitment to our country that you are apart of. Forever in my prayers, God Bless!

Christmas in... May?

I love decorating just as much as the next person, and planning ahead for the holidays is always a great idea. I was shocked though to see Cracker Barrel with Christmas decor up THIS early. I mean, it's not even Summer yet! Well, now that I see it I just can't help but to wonder how I will decorate this Christmas. Maybe I will do this?

Christmas lights on a palm tree!! I have to admit even Santa looks to be struggling with this concept! Anyone else planning ahead for Christmas decorating? How do you store the goodies the rest of the year? How long do you keep decoration up? How EARLY do you put them up or away? Tell me all, and link some things here! Please share!

The Tulip House

My lovely mother in law, Jina has this dream. The dream is awesome, and it will take some time to achieve. With all that said I have dreams too, and for me keeping something visually around really helps. So, when Jina told me about the Tulip house, my "creative" juices started flowing.

All I did was spray paint the pre-cut sign and letters. Once the letters were dry I hot glued them to the sign, added some stickers that were already tacky on the back. I may add that this is the FIRST time I had ever used a hot glue gun before! LOL

Feel free to check out Jina's site!

Seen all around the blog world!

I have seen these FANTASTIC cake pops all over the blog world. The bloggers made them seem easy enough, so I decided to try it out and add my own flare. The intensions were to make them, and place them in a pretty floral arrangements to mail across the country to my mothers. With summer officially knocking hot on our door, I knew they would melt. Instead, I brought them to work, and troupe practice and everyone loved them! Most people thought I bought them!

So, last week I hit up 2 of my favorite stores Tar-Jay, and Michael's! I picked up enough goodies for 2 different kinds. Here are the ingredients for the cake pop yummies!
  • Cake Mix ( I used confetti & white cake mix)
  • Cake Frosting (I used cream cheese frosting and white frosting)
  • Vanilla & Chocolate melting chips (I picked mine up at Michael's)
  • Sprinkles! (My favorite part of the cake pop!)
To make them, you bake the cake and then let it cool. Once it is cooled take a fork and crumble the cake to fine pieces.
After that take a tub of frosting and mix it well with all the cake crumbles. Take a spoonful of the mixture and form it into a ball, place it on a plate and put in the refrigerator to firm up. Then you dip it into one kind of the melting chocolate/vanilla.

As soon as you put the ball down, stick a sucker stick in it, so the chocolate can harden around it as well. After the bottom hardens you can then dip it in the other kind, and quickly put sprinkles on the top. Allow them to cool for a good hour in the refrigerator before putting the plastic baggies around and twist ties.
The finished project looked awesome, and tasted even better! They were a lot harder then I originally thought. My number one tip would be to NOT use colored vanilla. It does not melt well, and it is too stiff when you dip the balls in. The second batch I used plain chocolate on the bottom, and plain vanilla on the top. It was very easy to manage.

I bought extra to make lemon favored ones..Maybe in a few weeks I will give it a try!

Veggies...they make me happy

Thought I would post how much fun I had today after the farmers market. Since I start a diet every day, and re-start it again the following day, I came to the conclusion that I am finally going to take the proper action and take proper control of my body. I'm in rather good health, with the exception of a few, ok a lot of pounds to shed. Usually I eat properly, like a bunny, but forget to exercise... now it is the other way around. You know how you think to yourself "Oh I worked out, it's ok to snack", yeah well thats me! I had to take a few snaps from my iPhone to show you the beautiful fruits and vegetables.

Good music, a sharp knife, and a clean kitchen is the perfect recipe for putting together lunch baggies. I listened to a christian rock radio station I just had brought to my attention today. I used a pink knife I ordered from my work rewards point system, and spent about 15 mins prior switching dishes around, and sanitizing the surfaces. For the Veggies we had the following yummy goods.
  • Celery
  • Radish
  • Green Onion
  • Cucumber
  • Yellow Pepper
  • Baby Carrots
  • Green Pepper
  • Green onion.
Today's visit to the famers market was less hectic then normal, which explains why I spent more the I usually do. I didn't feel rushed, and didn't have any old men who don't speak english hit me with their cart. It also didn't feel like leaving a rock concert at the parking lot. Since normally I just run to the veggie isles and quickly make my selections, I've been able to keep purchases under $22. With more space, and more freedom to just "shop" around, I picked, and browsed, and got a few extra treats. $38 this time, which is a new record! I did have 3 heavy duty reusable bags full of freshness! As pictured above you see fruit too, and here is the following sweet treats.

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Star Fruit
I also picked up some seedless grapes, mixed them around with a natural sweetener, bagged them up, and put them in the freezer for a fresh cool snack!

Finally I leave your tonight with a teaser pic of my hh ringing up our stuff from Ikea. We managed to make it out alive, and well, without any major injuries. (Well no injuries, but you understand how crazy this store can be!) I know I promised pictures from the exotic car rally shootout we went to, but there are so many. My new computer comes with a movie editing tool, so I'm playing around that.

I'm watching my hh put together all of our ikea finds, and while searching youtube videos, I came across this amazing apartment! What do you think?

I have some amazing shots from the Shootout event in Miami we went to Sunday. Besides the horrible burn, we had a blast. Looking forward on showing you some pictures from the event.

Coming soon to a blog near your...aka Waters Edge our office space will be posted!

Spray Paint Frenzy...part 1 of many more

On my old blog I posted a center piece I made with things lying around the house. After christmas, I found them scented and on clearance. When I got bored with them I bagged them up. Then my hh (aka handsome hubby) bought me flowers! Our new furniture came with pillows, black and red, so I put together this little thing. I laced the red ribbon between the cones then added the black bow around the outside. I already had the ribbon in my "sewing" kit, so i didn't spend an extra dime to create this.

During my 2 days off, and completely rained in with a broken down car, I broke out the spray paint. It was time to give these pine cones a face life. As I got extremely bored with my surroundings so quickly, a few spritz of paint is an inexpensive way to make a dashing change.

**Learned a fast lesson in painting. Rubber gloves are on my shopping list! It took several hours to get this off!**
So what do you think? Better before or after?

As soon as my new pillows are ready, and i switch out some pictures I will post the full room make over. Now time to check out some virtual garage sales via craigslist. Don't you just love that site? With the desktop purchase coming soon, I need a new desk! I refuse to pay more then $50.00 for it, and i should probable find a nice little chair to go along with it.

An Apple any day

So excited to finally sit down and publish my first entry to everyone, who may or may not be reading this. This first post has nothing to do with my crafts, cooking, or home decor, but the tools i will use to blog it! Right now I am sporting a PC, with the left hinge busted, a plastic piece snapped in half, and the screen pixels randomly. Occasionally the built in wifi router fails (I will be shocked if I don't lose connection while typing this). So it would only make sense that this family invests in a new computer, and based on the title of this post, I am sure you can guess this families brand of choice.

You are looking at a beautiful iMac, and iPad. I already carry and iphone so naturally I would chose these 2 machines to wrap up my trio. My iPhone is a black 16GB 3G. I have yet to take the plunge to the 3G (S) in hopes of something else this summer. I've already picked out my specs for each beauty.

iMac
  • 21.5 inch screen
  • 3.06 GHZ Intel core 2 Duo
  • 4GB 1066MHz DDR# SDRAM-2x2GB
  • Apple wireless keypad and mouse
  • iWork
  • AppleCare protection plan
I made sure to get AppleCare for our iPhones, and since I get a discount on apple products through the company I work for, I willing to make the purchase. I would also like to get photo editing software to add watermarks to my pictures I post. A few blogs I read via google reader do that and I think its awesome.

As far as my iPad is concerned I am perfectly happy with the 16GB wifi model. Originally we were going to settle with just the desk top, but the iPad is perfect for when I am reading blogs, when my handsome hubby is playing games. We are also going to pick up Sims3, and I'm scoping out Etsy.com for the perfect pouch. I love the following cases...

from WallabyBagCo for $ 38

courtesy of gadgetarmour for $41

another by gadgetarmour $41

Isn't etsy.com just great? Not to mention I love supporting people who are making homemade items. I can't wait for the fat tax return to deposit into my account, because that day I am off to spend that hole in my pocket.

*I might add that my wifi router only failed once! *
